Make this Valentine’s Day one to remember with these fantastic date night ideas that you can enjoy with your children!

1. Have a bake fest.

Your kids are sure to have a party at school on this day or you can make some special treats to have together. Put on your apron and pull a stool up to the counter for your little ones. Let the baking begin! Involve your kids as much as possible to make them feel included. Bake cookies (try these brown butter chocolate chip cookies) or brownies with little surprises inside; this tradition can provide hours of laughter, fun, and family bonding for a single mom and the loves of her life.

2. Make a special Valentine’s Day meal.

Decide whether you want to make a special breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Get your kids to help you stir the pink pancake batter and have them mash the meatloaf into heart-shaped patties. If cooking isn’t your thing, get pizza, drink sparkling cider from champagne flutes, and call each slice your kids get a โ€œslice of heaven.โ€

Pick a special dessert. Make ice cream cones or caramel apples, or buy a box of chocolate-covered strawberries. If you don’t want to make any special dishes but still want something delicious, get your kids to help you make Valentine’s Day Popcorn – a delicious sweet and salty popcorn treat that is very easy to make. Make the most of your time together by celebrating how far the kids have come this year.

3. Or go out to dinner.

Letโ€™s be realistic โ€“ the thought of someone else cooking your celebratory dinner and cleaning up after it is a bit too appealing instead of tying up an apron yourself. Many restaurants have special menus for Valentineโ€™s Day and if you call earlier you may get a reservation in a restaurant where kids can eat for free.

4. Take out the board games.

Nothing says family fun like board games! Bring out your inner child with classic games like Twister Ultimate, Life, Clue, and Monopoly. If your kids have grown out of these games, try playing Cranium or Apples to Applesโ€”they are both big crowd-pleasers! Casual games for all ages.

5. Curl up for a movie night.

Who needs a theater when you have a cozy couch? Nuzzle up to your kids on the couch and watch a movie together in your pajamas! It’s cozy, warm, and comfortable โ€“ just what you need to wind down. Have popcorn and hot cocoa to make it an even more relaxing experience.

6. Hang out with other single parents.

Don’t feel like being alone on Valentine’s Day or not feeling like spending it with just you and your kids? Well, I’ve got an easy solution for that! Spend it with other single parents. And you can also incorporate your children into this. You can even spend time with friends that don’t have Valentine’s dates.

Make it an exciting date night adventure with a delicious dinner followed by an engaging activity or a movie to top off the night! You can also include others, or just spend time at home or doing something relaxed.

7. DIY your Valentine’s day.

Valentine’s Day is an excellent occasion to enjoy some creative do-it-yourself or craft projects. Whether you are an experienced crafter or a creative beginner, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase your crafting skills and have some fun with your children. Get creative and come up with some amazing art projects, such as this great list of cute ideas that even teens will love. You can proudly display them in your home or even give them as gifts to friends and family. It’s also a great way to bond with your kids!

8. Lastly, don’t forget to be your own Valentine.

There is nothing wrong with being your own Valentine. As the saying goes, โ€œYou must learn to love yourself before you can learn to love others.โ€ So, love yourself and treat yourself โ€“ you deserve it!

All the hard work you do as a single parent deserves to be rewarded. Self-care is essential for all parents, regardless of their relationship status. As parents, we often prioritize our children’s needs over our own, forgetting to take care of ourselves.

This Valentine’s Day, show yourself some love! Treat yourself to flowers, a delicious box of chocolates, or even something as simple as a nice bath with a new bath oil. (We all know how infrequent that can be for single moms! Lol) This is a great time to set goals for oneself about what one wants to accomplish in the upcoming year.

I understand it can be hard for single mothers on their first Valentine’s Day; however, I can assure you that it gets easier over time.

It helps to celebrate the special people you have in your life, instead of drowning in waves of misery and self-pity. Valentine’s Day may not look the same for a single mom (or dad), but, in my opinion, it can still be just as fulfilling, if not more so.

Love can be expressed through baking cookies, playing games, or watching movies while drinking sparkling cider out of fancy glasses – no matter what your relationship status is! Valentine’s Day can be a great day for everyone.

Celebrate with Love this Valentine’s Day!
